SiFly Aviation has successfully raised $20 million in Series A funding aimed at expanding the U.S. production of its long-endurance Q12 electric drone. The financing round was led by Shield Capital, with participation from Qudit, BBK Capital, Alumni Ventures, and other investors. The company plans to utilize the funds to increase production capacity and support customer deliveries, while also continuing the development and field testing of its DronePort multi-drone infrastructure system.
Based in Santa Clara, California, SiFly specializes in developing U.S.-made autonomous aerial systems for various applications, including public safety, infrastructure inspection, and enterprise operations.
Innovations in Drone Flight Endurance
Q12 Drone Capabilities
The Q12 drone is designed to overcome one of the primary limitations of traditional multirotor drones: flight endurance. According to SiFly, the Q12 can achieve flight times that are four times longer and distances that are up to ten times farther than leading enterprise drones, with a payload capacity of up to 10 pounds.
SiFly has conducted extensive testing of the Q12, completing thousands of flights and accumulating hundreds of flight hours. Notably, the Q12 achieved a Guinness World Record for the longest electric multirotor flight in its weight class, lasting 3 hours, 11 minutes, and 54 seconds.
Brian Hinman, Founder and CEO of SiFly, stated, “Most multirotor drones were designed for short flights close to the operator. We built the Q12 to combine the agility, precision hover, and vertical takeoff and landing of a multirotor drone with the efficiency, range, and speed of a fixed-wing aircraft.” He emphasized that the funding will enable the company to scale production and fulfill its growing backlog of orders.
