This announcement signifies a significant development for Gremsy, which was founded by Vietnamese engineers in 2011 and is headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The company has established itself as a global supplier of gimbals and camera payloads for drones and robotics.

Context of U.S. Drone Policy Changes
The expansion occurs amid a notable shift in U.S. drone policy. In December 2025, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) included foreign-produced UAS and critical UAS components on its Covered List. Products that are Blue UAS-cleared or meet the Buy American standard received exemptions from these regulations.
Recently, the White House has intensified its focus on domestic production and supply chain security. An August 13 proclamation highlighted U.S. reliance on foreign-made drone components as a national security issue, particularly concerning motors, electronic speed controllers, lithium-ion batteries, and docking stations.
In this context, Gremsy USA’s strategy aims to leverage technology developed by an established international drone company to meet the stringent U.S. sourcing requirements. The company states that its U.S. operations will engineer and manufacture compliant payloads domestically.
Overview of the New Payloads
Gremsy USA’s product lineup integrates its stabilized gimbal technology with NDAA-compliant thermal imaging technology sourced from Teledyne FLIR OEM.
- VIO F1: This EO/IR payload combines visible zoom and thermal imaging, targeting applications such as industrial inspections, search and rescue, and situational awareness.
- ORUS L NDAA: A larger stabilized spherical payload designed for long-range operations, suitable for surveillance, reconnaissance, and critical infrastructure monitoring.
- LYNX NDAA: A lightweight dual EO/IR gimbal intended for smaller UAS, where size, weight, and power constraints are critical.
Gremsy USA announced that both the ORUS L NDAA and LYNX NDAA have been added to the Blue UAS Cleared List, joining the VIO F1 in the company’s U.S. offerings.
The thermal capabilities of these payloads utilize Teledyne FLIR OEM technology, allowing Gremsy to combine stabilized payload systems with NDAA-compliant radiometric thermal camera modules.

The significance of Gremsy USA’s announcement extends beyond the introduction of new payloads. Federal policy increasingly regards individual drone components as critical to national security, not just complete aircraft. A July 20 executive order on defense supply chains mandates contractors to map critical supply chains from raw materials to finished products and encourages the qualification of domestic and allied sources where supply chain risks are identified.
