In the wake of a landslide in Pengshui County, Chongqing, on July 17, JOUAV demonstrated the effectiveness of real-time drone mapping in assisting emergency managers. The technology provides critical information to determine safe areas for responders before they enter potentially hazardous zones.
Utilizing its JOS-P200 vehicle-mounted drone hangar, JOUAV launched an autonomous aerial reconnaissance mission shortly after arriving at the site. Within approximately one hour, emergency responders received high-resolution aerial imagery and a detailed 3D model of the affected area. This data enabled the command center to assess terrain conditions, landslide boundaries, and potential secondary hazards prior to deploying personnel and equipment.

Central to the deployment was JOUAV’s JOS-P200 Real-Time 3D Mapping System, which integrates a PH-10H multirotor UAV with remote sensing payloads, broadband communications, edge computing, and real-time modeling software. Unlike traditional mapping methods that require post-flight processing, this system collects, transmits, processes, and models data simultaneously. As a result, orthomosaic maps, digital surface models, and textured 3D models are available while the drone is still in flight.
The 3D model provides emergency managers with the ability to measure terrain, identify blocked routes, estimate the extent of the landslide, and understand elevation changes that may impact rescue operations. This information aids incident commanders in determining the most effective deployment of crews and equipment.
Advantages Over Traditional Aerial Video
While live video can depict the immediate conditions of a disaster scene, a live 3D model offers enhanced context. It allows teams to measure distances, identify hazards, and mark locations in real time as the drone continues to gather data. JOUAV’s platform combines aerial imagery, live video, broadband communications, edge computing, and AI-assisted analysis into a cohesive workflow, enabling emergency teams to identify critical features such as roads, buildings, and waterways directly within the live 3D environment.
Expanding Capabilities for Larger Incidents
Utilization of the CW-15 VTOL UAV
For larger-scale incidents, JOUAV provides a similar real-time mapping solution using its CW-15 VTOL UAV. This aircraft supports long-range beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations across complex terrains while continuously transmitting mapping data to a mobile processing terminal for live scene reconstruction. In a recent deployment, a CW-15 equipped with a five-camera oblique mapping payload generated a detailed 3D model covering 2.18 square kilometers within five minutes of data acquisition.
