Cyberhawk Wins Multi-Year Drone Inspection Deal for SSE’s UK Power Grid and Offshore Wind
Three-year SSE agreement covers transmission and distribution infrastructure while expanding drone inspections into offshore wind assets
Cyberhawk has secured a new multi-year agreement to provide drone inspection and surveying services across SSE’s electricity networks in Britain.
The agreement covers an initial three-year term, with an option for another two years. Cyberhawk, a subsidiary of Ondas Inc. (NASDAQ: ONDS), has worked with SSE for more than a decade.
The agreement covers SSE’s regulated network businesses, SSEN Transmission and SSEN Distribution. Together, they manage thousands of kilometers of electricity infrastructure across mainland Britain.
Cyberhawk will provide specialist drone inspection and surveying services across the networks. The company says drones can improve inspection safety, efficiency and data quality while reducing the need for workers to access difficult infrastructure.
The contract marks the third major long-term agreement between Cyberhawk and SSE, following two previous five-year agreements.
“We are extremely pleased to have secured this new agreement with SSE and to continue a relationship that has now spanned more than ten years,” said Chris Fleming, CEO at Cyberhawk. “The fact that SSE has awarded Cyberhawk a third major long-term agreement, following two previous five-year agreements, is a strong testament to the value and trust we have built together.”
Expanding Drone Inspections to Offshore Wind
The agreement also expands Cyberhawk’s work into SSE’s offshore renewable energy assets.
Cyberhawk received Lot 2 for offshore wind turbine inspection, adding offshore wind to its work across electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure.
The expansion reflects a growing need for energy companies to inspect large numbers of assets across wide and difficult-to-access areas.
“SSE’s electricity networks business has consistently been one of the UK’s most progressive energy companies when it comes to adopting innovation. We have seen that commitment first-hand through the deployment of drone technology across its networks and, increasingly, through the use of iHawk to turn inspection data into actionable asset intelligence. The addition of offshore wind inspection further demonstrates the breadth of our partnership with SSE. We are proud to continue supporting the safety, resilience and efficiency of its critical energy infrastructure,” Fleming noted.
From Drone Inspection to Asset Intelligence
Cyberhawk also recently renewed a separate multi-year agreement to provide its iHawk platform as a service.
The software combines inspection imagery, geospatial information and AI-assisted analytics in an asset-focused system. Utilities can use it to organize inspection records, identify concerns and prioritize maintenance.
The combination of drone inspections and asset management software reflects a broader shift in infrastructure operations. Drones collect data, while software helps operators use that information to manage individual assets and plan maintenance.
This approach can make drone inspection part of an ongoing asset management workflow rather than a stand-alone data collection project.
SSE plans to invest £33 billion, approximately $43.75 billion, in energy infrastructure by 2030.
The new agreements give Cyberhawk a long-term role across transmission and distribution networks, offshore wind, and inspection data management. After more than a decade of working with SSE, the partnership illustrates how mature utility drone programs can expand from aerial inspections into integrated infrastructure management.
