SkyDrive Collaborates with Air India and Suzuki to Assess eVTOL Medical Logistics in Mumbai and Delhi
SkyDrive Advances eVTOL Feasibility Study in India
The Japanese eVTOL developer SkyDrive Inc. has progressed its joint feasibility study in India to a route-evaluation phase as of August 25, 2026. This development follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on July 31, 2026, between SkyDrive, Air India, and Suzuki Motor Corporation. The MoU outlines a medical air logistics feasibility study aimed at addressing urgent transport needs in India.
Focus on Medical Logistics
The initial operational routes selected for evaluation are located in Mumbai and the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). The study aims to tackle the challenges posed by rapid urban growth, which has led to increased traffic congestion in major cities. This congestion complicates the timely delivery of medical shipments and aircraft maintenance.
SkyDrive, Air India, and Suzuki are exploring eVTOL medical logistics as a solution to these transport bottlenecks. Future operations will require coordination with Indian government and regulatory authorities.
Emergency Transport of Radioactive Isotopes
The first evaluated route focuses on the emergency transport of radioactive isotopes, which are critical for cancer diagnostics and treatment. Due to their short half-lives, these pharmaceuticals must be delivered to hospitals immediately after production. The proposed route connects a manufacturing plant in Mumbai to major general hospitals in the vicinity, allowing for rapid air logistics that can bypass road traffic.
Organ Transport Across Delhi NCR
The second route under evaluation is designed for emergency medical and organ transport across the Delhi NCR. Given the chronic traffic issues in Delhi, ground transport between hospitals can take 30 to 90 minutes. SkyDrive anticipates that its compact eVTOL aircraft could complete these trips in just 10 to 15 minutes, significantly improving response times for transplant surgeries and emergency care.
Addressing Aircraft Parts Transport
The feasibility study also addresses the transport of aircraft parts, recognizing similar congestion issues within the aviation sector. Delays in parts delivery can lead to Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations at major hubs, impacting operational efficiency. The proposed parts-transport route will connect collection hubs with maintenance bases near Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and its terminals.
SkyDrive aims to evaluate whether eVTOL delivery can reduce aircraft downtime and enhance operational reliability.
Future Research and Collaboration
SkyDrive, Air India, and Suzuki plan to expand their research through further dialogue with stakeholders. This collaboration aims to refine the feasibility study and explore additional applications for eVTOL technology in India.
