Sila Secures $300 Million for Silicon Anode Production Expansion
Sila has raised $300 million in private funding aimed at expanding the production of its silicon-carbon battery anode technology in the United States. This investment will enhance manufacturing capacity at the company’s facility in Moses Lake, Washington, as it seeks to bolster domestic supply chains for advanced battery materials.
Funding Details and Investor Participation
The funding round was led by Atreides Management and Sutter Hill Ventures, with participation from both existing and new investors, including 8VC, Bessemer Venture Partners, Matrix Partners, and funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc.
The capital will support a planned Phase 2 expansion of the Moses Lake plant and accelerate the production of Sila’s Titan Silicon® anode technology.
The Importance of Battery Materials in Supply Chains
Battery materials have emerged as a critical topic in discussions surrounding technology security and domestic manufacturing. While much focus has been on battery cells, anodes are also essential components of lithium-ion batteries.
Currently, China leads in global anode material processing and battery cell manufacturing, which poses supply chain risks for industries reliant on advanced batteries, including:

In the drone sector, battery performance is crucial for aircraft capabilities. Enhanced energy density can lead to longer flight times, increased payload capacity, or smaller battery packs for specific missions. Domestic production of key battery materials may also lessen reliance on international suppliers as governments prioritize secure supply chains for essential technologies.
Advantages of Silicon Anodes
Sila has developed a silicon-carbon anode intended to replace traditional graphite anodes in lithium-ion batteries. The Titan Silicon® technology is reported to provide 20% to 40% higher energy density while enabling faster charging.
These advancements could significantly benefit various commercial drone applications, particularly in long-range inspection, public safety, defense, and autonomous operations where flight endurance is critical.
The company integrates its proprietary battery technology with manufacturing in the United States, aiming to enhance both performance and supply chain resilience.

Moses Lake Plant Expansion Plans
Sila’s Moses Lake manufacturing facility began operations in the fall of 2025, covering 160 acres with an initial Phase 1 capacity of 2 GWh. The company plans to expand this facility over the next five years to achieve an annual capacity of up to 250 GWh. If successful, this site would become the largest anode production facility globally.
The expansion is expected to create hundreds of manufacturing jobs in Washington State as production ramps up.
Investors have noted that Sila’s progress illustrates its capability to transition advanced battery technology from research to large-scale manufacturing. Vic Miller from Sutter Hill Ventures remarked on the company’s journey, emphasizing the importance of translating laboratory innovations into practical applications in the manufacturing sector.
This development underscores a growing investment in the domestic battery supply chain, as U.S. policies increasingly promote secure sourcing for critical technologies, encouraging manufacturers to produce essential battery materials within the country rather than relying on international supply chains.
