UAS Council Welcomes Grand Forks DDA to Enhance Drone Ecosystem Collaboration
The North Dakota UAS Council has welcomed the Grand Forks Downtown Development Association (DDA) as its newest member, according to a June 9 announcement from the council. This partnership aims to strengthen the connection between North Dakota’s drone industry and the community that supports its growth.
Grand Forks serves as a central hub for much of the state’s drone activity, including Project ULTRA at Grand Sky and the statewide Vantis BVLOS network.
Linking Industry and Community
The council emphasizes that a thriving innovation ecosystem relies not only on research facilities and business parks but also on public spaces, local businesses, community events, and a sense of place that attracts and retains talent.
Dr. Matt Dunlevy, CEO of the ND UAS Council, stated that building an inclusive, world-class Unmanned Autonomous Systems (UAS) ecosystem requires active engagement with local communities and regional development leaders. He noted that aligning with the DDA enhances the council’s mission to share best practices, communicate regional goals, and foster a vibrant community that supports technological talent and economic growth in Grand Forks.
Jill Proctor, President and CEO of the Downtown Development Association, highlighted the importance of community growth keeping pace with the region’s drone industry. She expressed enthusiasm for strengthening connections between industry and community, aiming to create a region where innovation thrives and residents want to live and work.
The council remarked that when community spaces and cutting-edge industries align, the entire region benefits, and they welcomed the DDA team in their efforts to promote innovation both in the skies and on local streets.
