Solapur Police Utilize ideaForge Q6 V2 Drones for Pandharpur Wari Pilgrimage Security

The Pandharpur Wari Pilgrimage

The Pandharpur Wari is an annual pilgrimage with a history spanning nearly 800 years. Each year, millions of devotees, known as warkaris, undertake a journey of approximately 250 kilometers (155 miles) to Pandharpur in the Solapur district to seek the darshan of Lord Vitthal. The pilgrimage is centered around the palkis, or palanquins, of revered saints, including Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram, whose palkis depart from Alandi and Dehu, respectively. The main Yatra lasts about 21 days, culminating on Ashadhi Ekadashi, a day dedicated to Lord Vitthal and Rukmini. Throughout the journey, devotees sing hymns and dance, highlighting the communal spirit of the event. This year, the pilgrimage attracted over 30 lakh (3 million) warkaris, emphasizing the extensive coordination required for safe management.

ideaForge Q6 V2 Drones on the Route

To manage the large gathering of pilgrims, ideaForge Technology Limited has deployed eight Q6 V2 drones in collaboration with the Solapur Rural Police. These drones provide continuous aerial oversight of the pilgrim movement along the route. Each drone is equipped with a megaphone system, allowing police to issue real-time announcements and directions from the air, which aids in guiding the flow of pilgrims and addressing any congestion or safety issues.

The deployment was executed with the assistance of ideaForge’s channel partner, Bluesky Amida Pvt. Ltd., under the supervision of Atul Kulkarni, the superintendent of police for Solapur Rural. Bluesky is incorporating AI-based video analytics into the live feeds, enhancing automated crowd-monitoring capabilities. Meanwhile, ideaForge manages the telemetry, back-end server infrastructure, and live-streaming through its BlueFire Live platform, ensuring that the police control room maintains uninterrupted real-time visibility of the situation on the ground throughout the Wari.

Ashesh Mathur on Returning to the Wari

Ashesh Mathur, assistant general manager for sales at ideaForge Technology Limited, commented on the importance of technology in supporting such a historic pilgrimage. He stated, “A pilgrimage this old and personal needs technology that quietly protects it. When we first supported the Wari last year, we aimed to demonstrate that our systems could keep pace with a procession that moves every single day. This year, we return as a trusted partner of the police department, allowing us to focus more on monitoring the route rather than re-learning it. Each year, we gain valuable insights into the pilgrimage’s dynamics, including crowd behavior and visibility challenges, which enhance our ability to respond effectively.”

The deployment of drones during the Wari builds on ideaForge’s ongoing collaboration with police and public safety agencies across India. The company is recognized for its contributions to managing large civil operations through indigenous and ranks third globally among top dual-use drone manufacturers, according to Insights. With over 1 million completed customer missions, an ideaForge takes off every three minutes, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing public safety through innovative technology.
