Russian Intelligence Reportedly Monitored TechEx Chief Engineer During Düsseldorf Event

Ukrainian Drone Manufacturer TechEx Showcases Innovations Amid Russian Surveillance

On March 24, during the opening day of XPONENTIAL Europe in Düsseldorf, Ukrainian drone manufacturer TechEx presented its fiber-optic FPV drones to European buyers. Concurrently, the Service of (SBU) uncovered Russian surveillance equipment hidden in the office of TechEx’s chief engineer. The devices were intended to gather intelligence on the company’s engineering documentation, supply chains, partner networks, and data related to Ukrainian military units utilizing TechEx drones. The SBU successfully thwarted the operation, with TechEx stating, “Today we managed to expose the enemy, but we understand that this is not his last attempt.”

TechEx’s Unique Technology and Development Journey

TechEx, formally established in 2024, has roots dating back to spring 2023 when its engineering team began developing fiber-optic drones as volunteers. Initially, these projects did not require formal documentation or adherence to Ministry of Defense processes. Chief engineer Anton explained, “Initially, we were working on volunteer projects where only the drone itself was needed.”

As the need for mass production arose, formal documentation and technical specifications became essential. The first officially codified sample was received on November 25, 2024, and the company has since developed four codified products, with eight more in various stages of development.

TechEx also innovated its fiber-optic winding technology, creating custom machinery to meet the specific needs of fiber optics, resulting in a lightweight spool that enhances operational .

Key Drone Models: Stalker XO-10 and XO-15

TechEx is currently scaling two primary FPV models: the Stalker XO-10 and Stalker XO-15. The XO-10 is designed for front-line positions with heavy electronic jamming, featuring a teleoperation range of 15,000 meters and a maximum takeoff weight of 6.35 kg. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense describes it as “maneuverable in flight and fast in preparation for takeoff.”

The XO-15, with a 15-inch frame, targets rear-area objectives such as command posts and artillery systems. Both models are designed for operational , with ongoing tests aimed at extending their operational range to 20-25 km.

Introducing the Stalker Striker Mini

Another product showcased by TechEx is the Stalker Striker Mini, a high-speed interceptor designed specifically for countering Shahed-type attack drones. It boasts a cruise speed of 200 km/h and a maximum speed of 325 km/h, with a range of 25 km and a flight ceiling of 4,000 m.

While TechEx’s stand featured claims of being “battle-proven” and “NATO-ready,” these designations reflect Ministry of Defense codification rather than independent NATO certification. Nonetheless, the company has demonstrated its products’ effectiveness through numerous combat sorties.

Strategic Manufacturing Approach

TechEx’s strategy in Düsseldorf included a proposal for European manufacturers to build its drones under license and ship them back to , rather than exporting finished products. This approach aims to mitigate risks associated with Russian strikes on Ukrainian production facilities and streamline supply chains.

By collaborating with European manufacturers, TechEx seeks to provide battle-tested designs without the lengthy development processes typically associated with military technology.

Conclusion: The Significance of TechEx’s Innovations

The recent SBU operation highlights the strategic importance of TechEx’s technology in the ongoing conflict. The presence of Russian surveillance equipment underscores the effectiveness of TechEx’s fiber-optic drones, which are resistant to electronic warfare tactics employed by Russia. As the company continues to innovate and expand its production capabilities, the operational landscape for Ukrainian forces may shift significantly in the coming months.

Within the next year, it is anticipated that at least one European manufacturer will begin producing licensed variants of TechEx’s drones, further solidifying the company’s role in the defense sector.
