Phase One Brings P3 Camera to DJI M400, Extending Medium-Format Imaging to New Platform

Phase One announced that its P3 drone camera solution is now fully integrated with the DJI M400 platform. This development extends the compatibility that Phase One previously established with DJI’s M350 and M300 series, making its medium-format imaging capabilities accessible to users of DJI’s new flagship drone.

What’s New: Seamless Integration & Expanded Capability

The integration enables users to mount a P3 system — comprising a Phase One medium-format camera (either the iXM-100 or the iXM-GS120), a purpose-built gimbal, and a choice of wide-area imaging or lenses — onto the DJI M400. The setup functions as a “plug-and-play” solution, leveraging the DJI while offering the image quality and flexibility associated with Phase One’s high-end imaging hardware.

Key benefits of the integration include:

  • Native DJI support: installation is simplified via extended landing gear, and a quick-release dampening mount allows users to chain or swap payloads without major reconfiguration.

  • High image fidelity: the system offers large-, medium-format imaging, preserving detail, dynamic range, and accuracy required for professional inspection and mapping tasks.

  • Versatile optics: users may choose among Phase One’s lens lineup to tailor capture to mission requirements.

  • Improved flight capability: the system supports the 150 mm autofocus lens while maintaining lift performance, enabling longer missions and achieving sub-millimeter ground sampling distance (GSD) at about 40 m altitude.

  • Onboard camera automation tools: functions such as autofocus, focus bracketing, and auto capture can be used in mission execution.

  • Streamlined workflow: camera settings and controls are accessible from within the DJI controller interface, allowing operators to manage imaging without switching between applications.

Phase One states that the integration will enhance productivity through faster operations and reduced downtime, attributes especially beneficial in commercial inspection, mapping, and surveying work.

Market Implications & Use Cases

By bringing its medium-format P3 system into the DJI M400 ecosystem, Phase One opens the door for operators to combine high-fidelity aerial imaging with DJI’s hardware and software infrastructure. The DJI M400 is often chosen for demanding industrial use cases such as powerline inspection, infrastructure surveys, and asset monitoring — scenarios where image quality and reliability are critical.

With full integration, service providers, mapping firms, inspection operators, and geospatial professionals may now carry over their existing workflows or expand capabilities to include higher detail output. The single-controller approach simplifies adoption, reducing the technical friction of pairing third-party sensors.

Availability & Next Steps

Phase One will announce shipment timing for the P3 and DJI M400 integration at a later date. The company is presenting the solution at Intergeo in Frankfurt, October 7–9, 2025, at Hall 12.0, Booth 0F020, where visitors can experience the integration first-hand.
